“Geoff applies himself well to tasks within and outside of his university curriculum” – Jessica So SSA
Geoff continues to grow and look for opportunities within the field of engineering through programs such as my CPD, Professional seminars, webinars and competitions. He enjoys working on many personal electronics projects outside of university.
Professional Work Experience
2016 - Current Intern Engineer
RF Design, 7/1 Stockwell Pl. Archerfield
Geoff continues to grow his knowledge base in the embedded systems industry. Working on projects involving PCB design, Firmware generation, Software coding, PCB fabrication and testing Geoff is keenly interested in electronics. Here at RF design, Geoff has had exposure to embedded systems, RF and drone technologies.
2016 - 2017 Campus Coordinator
Engineers Australia, Nathan Campus
Geoff is responsible for planning, organizing, advertising, marketing and hosting the EA Roadmap Webinar series on campus. Reporting to the regional and area managers.
2015 – 2017 Student Leader
Griffith School of Engineering, Nathan Campus
Geoff is part of the student leader team that helps new students in their transition to University life at Griffith. This service includes course related workshops, introduction to student services and amenities and teaching time management skills.
2015 Tutor
Private Tutor at Griffith University, Nathan
Geoff provided one on one tutoring for students studying Programming with C and Unix.
Professional Skills
Highly Passionate about Acquiring Knowledge and Understanding
Geoff is continually increasing his knowledge base, attending many professional seminars, workshops and lectures outside of the university. Geoff is Passionate about engineering.
Strong Oral and Written Communication
Demonstrates high-level capabilities in writing technical reports and communicating effectively within his leadership roles at Griffith. Geoff has succeeded in face-to-face sales roles previously. He has experience in managing a small brigade of staff through verbal and non-verbal communication.
High Level of Teamwork and Networking Skills
Proves to be a real team asset, as Geoff is a hard working and effective communicator that works to get the job done. Geoff engages in many professional networking events through his club and society networks.
Excellent and Flexible Personal Workload Management
Geoff has always managed his time effectively, focusing on a structured and systematic approach to everything he works on. Geoff successfully manages to balance part time work, University roles, tutoring and full time studies.
Exceptional Presentation and Management skills
Constantly receiving positive feedback on professional presentations and marketing. Geoff has excelled at product placement in many sales roles. Geoff has proven experience in management roles, with strong focus on managing people from varied backgrounds and cultures.
Technical Skills
Geoff has demonstrated a range of technical and problem solving skills throughout his time at Griffith University and RF Design.
-
CAD design (Solid Works, AutoCAD, OnShape) Demonstrated in 6603ENG product design
-
3D printing (PLA, ABS) Demonstrated in 3301ENG AWG enclosure
-
Welding (Gasless MIG)
-
CNC Routing (3D)
-
Laser Cutting
-
Hand Soldering (PTH, SMT down to 0402)
-
Circuit and PCB design (Altium)
-
Programming (C, Mat-lab, Assembly, Verilog, Python, C++)
-
Experience with different MCU’s and FPGA’s
-
Technical Writing (Professional Reports & Datasheet generation)
-
Data collection and analysis
Geoff has a particular liking to technical circuit design. He spends a great deal of his free time working on projects such as; RAPIDFIRE (combat robot), 3D printouts, RC vehicles, PCB design, Dev-kits and code based projects. Geoff is a fast learner, with a vey good attitude towards his work. Being at the beginning of his career, Geoff acknowledges that he has a lot to learn and is eager to do so.
Engagement
2017 - Current Robowars Competitor
Rapid Fire is a featherweight (13.6Kg) battle bot in progress for upcoming events (2018) in this national forum. Designed in CAD with OnShape, this bot features 4.6mm composite armour, a pneumatic piercing weapon and custom 3d Printed parts.
2017 – Current
Remote Pilot License (Repl)
Geoff is currently undertaking a remote pilot license course with a CASA approved training provider.
2014 – Current Small Projects
Continually working with small projects that involve the use of electronics, CAD, programing and PCB design. Geoff has worked on a number of small projects such as:
FPGA Sketcher program with VGA driver
Python Packet Test Scripts
Purely analog AWG
UAVCAN node
UAV operations
CAD design, CAM toolpathing and 3D printing
Industry Project – Design of a Real-Time Airspeed Transducer
In partnership with RF design, Geoff designed, built and programmed an airspeed transducer as part of a university assessment item.
Over a 12-week period, Geoff was able to design and build the required hardware, enclosure and test system. He also wrote the software used to drive the system. The unit functions as a pitot-static system. The system features 4 LPS22HD MEMS to sense angle of attack, pitot pressure, static pressure, altitude air density and temperature.
The PCB was designed in Altium Designer 2017 and is 4-layers deep. It features EFM32WG and STM32F302k8 processors with UART, SWD, SPI and CAN interfaces.
The system software is now being further developed for the new UAVCAN specification.
Clubs and Societies
2014 – Present Engineers Australia
Geoff keeps up with current engineering trends and technologies by attending a number of technical seminars and workshops.
2016 – Present Electrical Engineering Society Australia (EESA)
Geoff follows news and events in the power engineering industry.
2014 – 2017 GRUE
The Griffith University Electronics maker space was a great place to meet other university students and share what they were working on.
2016 – Present HSBNE
An engineer’s playground, the hacker space provides materials and tools to their members to help them with their hobby projects.
